Midnight in the Garden of Muskratville

 My neighbor, Jeremy, and I were fishing Shagawa’s outlet after dark the other night for walleyes (we did get a few), when Jeremy got a bite.  “Fawkinnae, I got a nice bite,” said Jeremy.  As he was reeling it in, he kept telling me how he couldn’t figure out what kind of  fish it was. Just as he was saying that, it dove into the weeds and planted itself there. We paddled over to it, pulled it out of the weeds and netted it. The Adventures of Super Cody - A Feel Good Dog Story

Last October Cody my 10 year old chocolate lab, his new little brother puppy Parker and myself, decided to visit my buddy Farmer Mike. Mike and his wife Susan have a beautiful property located along the lower Kinnikinnick River valley Southwest of River Falls. We were casually walking an upland area of his property admiring some new prairie plantings when we noticed a flock of turkeys along the edge of the woods. Cody also noticed them and, of course decided to chase them. “Fawkinnae, there he goes—the mighty Cody doing what dogs do best. An Ice Fishing Weekend to Remember

What red-blooded American male wouldn’t kill to go on a Lake of the Woods ice fishing trip? Back in the early 90’s, (that’s 1990’s, not 1890’s) my answer was always a resounding, “Fawkinnae Yes!” Fishing was generally quite good and the camaraderie was excellent, just the recipe for a good party. As was the custom at first ice, a group of friends set out for Baudette, MN on a snowy Thursday night. Seven guys in 3 different vehicles, some pulling trailers full of fishing gear and portables, were on their way to another exciting ice fishing voyage to Lake of the Woods.
